Naming of Memoirs

My entry for the Thursday Writer’s Post Blog Hop #4

When I read the topic of the blog hop at Suzy’s blog, I was ecstatic because I love this topic.

” Share with us why and how you chose the name of your blog and what it means to you.”

My blog’s name is MEMOIRS

I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t scribbling something with the chalk on the small gray board we had at home, later on I progressed to writing with pencils in my notebooks, pens replaced pencils but my writing continued uninterrupted, in diaries, journals, etc. Later on technology forced me to use the desktop, laptop, tablets and phones.

But I was a very private person and was loathe to share my writing with the world, only a few trusted family members and friends had my permission to go through my books. I received more accolades than brickbats for my writing but my need to hold on to my memories and thoughts kept me from sharing them with the public. I am an orthodox writer and jot down my ideas and stories in my books before putting them on the computer. I believe my pen understands my thoughts and feelings and doesn’t miss out on any detail, while transferring them on paper.

One day in 2010, my world was shattered; I lost my dad, my anchor and inspiration in life. I was devastated and didn’t know how to stop my heart from hurting and my soul from choking. It was then that my best friend suggested I write down my feelings and set them free, it was the only way I could survive. I did and surprisingly I could sleep through the nights again, I could breathe without hurting and even smile, with my eyes as well as my lips. I was healed by writing and sharing my feelings, my memories.

“Memoirs”, is my collection of memories both happy and sad, recollection of happenings in my life. I started my blog in 2010 and have evolved as a person and writer since then, though I still have a long way to go. My earlier posts were all about him but as I healed I started taking creative risks and trying writing in different genres and styles. The best thing about blogging and sharing my blog is the prolific writers I have connected with and the wonderful stories, poems and articles I have been fortunate enough to get to read.

I am grateful to Suzy for suggesting this lovely topic for the blog hop and am having a great time reading the history behind all the blog names of my fellow bloggers.

Best wishes

  1. Sad to read about your father. Some losses really hit you hard. Glad you found solace in writing. I think all of us have special stories of how or why we took to writing and all stories are special in their own way.

  2. I have read a lot of posts on this theme and believe me each one have been such nice addition to the bloghop. Finding the genesis of all blog names is such a beautiful idea no?

  3. I love your blog name and it is very appropriate considering its origins. I felt the same way when my mom passed. At the time I played piano hours every single night. I didn't start writing until years later.

  4. Sad to hear about your father. But your blog name is really lovely, and the important part is that theme of your blog really matches with the name too 🙂

  5. Thanks Sulekha for sharing your story and linking up. I also lost my dad in 2010 and like yours was for you, my dad was my rock and my world was shattered too. Not a good year for you and me. I'm glad you started writing and so glad to have met you. Hugs.

    1. Suzy, we have so many things in common. I am from Bombay and so are you 🙂 Sorry to hear about your dad, I am glad I met you too. Thanks for this prompt.Take care.
