The beautiful hills of Kasauli, located in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh (India)

My last three posts in this challenge have been the most difficult to write and post as I wasn’t able to connect with the world online due to my travels. I had carried my MTS but it somehow didn’t connect and the network in the hills was not very consistent and clear.

My husband gave me a surprise on our 25th wedding anniversary by planning a trip to the hills. I was given the impression that it was only for a day but it turned out to be a week of going to the most beautiful places up north, starting from Kasauli  to Shimla  and then deep into the interiors of HP where some places aren’t even connected by road and we had to trek it up to reach there.

These were the happiest days of my life because we had still managed to surprise each other after 25 years of togetherness and our mutual love has only increased in all these years. We have grown old together and in this journey have learnt to understand each other’s point of view and managed to hold on to the elusive traits of patience and acceptance of our imperfections perfectly.

No marriage is a bed of roses and there are bound to be arguments and tiffs but making up after the fights and learning to listen to the other person, a little give and take is all is needed to keep this fragile but strong ship in the waters of a happy and versatile marriage. I am no saint and I have had my share of being a nag and a shrew but we have never gone to bed angry. Talking about something clears the air and brings clarity to the matter at hand. If we keep an open mind while listening to the other person we sometimes see where we were going off on a tangent and why we were behaving the way we were before our talk.

So friends, all I can tell you from my experience of being married for 25 years is that forgive and forget, listen before you speak and have patience. Accept the good and discuss instead of arguing, don’t bottle up your feelings because the other person is not an all-knowing god. He has to be told what you want and why you are behaving the way you are, he is as lost as you. Support each other, be his strength and source of pride, he in turn will do all this and more for you.

Love   is a beautiful emotion and can cure all ills, stay happily in love and walk into the sunset with your soul mate.

  4. Such a lovely, lovely surprise! Yes, I too realized after 10 years that the husband needs to be told what I want, and once he knows, he'll be very happy to comply, but I should not expect him to read my mind!!

  5. Roshini,
This is the mistake we make so often. Movies have super heroes and we expect our guys to behave like them 🙂
