Amygdala

Amygdala

Disjointed voices in her head,

A cacophony of catalytic chaos

Her unspooled nerves bleed a deep red.

Blowing rings of grey in the air

Yellow stained fingers cupping a cracked coffee mug

 Broken table and upturned chair.

Pool of agony on the floor

The unseen drama playing out on the inside

Squishy screams racing out the door.

Whiplashes of broken dreams, rare

The Indelible dark welts, cold clammy skin tear

Do they dare to come up for air?

Soot in the lungs, fire on ice

Echoes of joy circling down the drain of despair

Hope fading out from vacant eyes.

The disquiet remains undisturbed

Quickened heartbeats slow the sluggish amygdala.

The voices remain unperturbed.
