Haiku
Food’s her savior
Soothes her pain and anxiety
Nonjudgmental friend
Starved for affection
The pantry satiates her
Her own oasis
She loves life, not food
When loved ones push her away
Food welcomes her home
Their words grate her skin
Sharp barbed wires wounding her
Eating dulls the ache
Everybody leaves
She sits with her sweets and breads
No longer afraid

Hihi.. That’s so me! Loved every word of it, Sulekha. You know how much I love your Haikus 🙂
Something’s Cooking
Hi, Shalini <3 You know how much I love your sweet words 🙂 thank you.
Emotional eating is sad. Hugs to her! So poignant, Sulekha!
Vidya, thank you. I am like her, food comforts me when I am down 🙂
I can relate to it so well! The pantry satiates me!
Smart poetry!
I feel bad that people pushed her away. Food is a great comfort. There’s nothing that an ice cream can’t solve. Loved this emotional write.
Raj, people do that a lot and the ones being pushed go nuts eating.
Brilliant Haiku. Food comforts me too. And I’m okay with that 🙂
Suzy, thanks a ton.
This is the story of most of us isnt it… I am sure many would relate to it. Food relieves pain, not visible to the naked eye!!!
Ramya, true that.
I know so many who find an outlet in eating. Really sad that she has only food to comfort her. Very poignant.
Rachna, there are so many kinds of people and sufferings in this world.
Oh so painful but I loved the way you have given a nice flow to it. I know of many people who seek solace in food, thankfully I’m not one of them.
Very well done.
Soumya, Lucky you 🙂 I eat when I am upset 🙁
I find it difficult to eat when I am under stress, but, when I am bored, or lonely, then I just head to the pantry and reach for my fav chips and stuff. And, if there’s a pastry in the fridge, then my day is made!
Lovely piece, Sulu..Actually, sweet should be the word…Sweet as sugar – you and your words! <3
Shilpa, you do know how to make me smile. Bless you. I eat when I am bored too 🙂
I love with your writing. Story of our lives this one. So many of us find solace in food. A steaming bowl of soup, kadhi-chawal, a slice of pizza can solve so many problems, innit?
Yes, Natasha. My favourite dish is Kadhi chawal.
Was meant to read as “I’m in love with your writing. ” :))
I know
Right back at you
Thanks Zainab.
Good blog you’ve got here.. It’s difficult to find good quality writing like yours these days. I truly appreciate individuals like you! Take care!!
