July has been unkind to the writer in me 🙂 I have been struggling with the dreaded Writer’s block for some time now. To get myself out of this funk, I have registered for the premium blogger certification workshops at the WeBlogAcademy. Looking forward to some quality learning.
The reluctant writer in me surfaced for a few minutes to write a short story last week. There was an interesting Saturday prompt on Instagram by Write Tribe. The opening sentence of the story was given as a prompt and the writers were allowed five sentences each to complete their stories. I had written my story for the Saturday Prompt there, sharing it here for you. Do head out there and read the stories by all the other writers.
Write a story in 5 sentences using the prompt.
‘The owl hooted just as Mansoor opened the gate…
He paused for a few seconds before stepping inside the compound.
He had a suitcase in one hand and a bulging polythene bag in the other.
The occupants of the house were sleeping peacefully, unaware of someone lurking about outside.
As he placed the polythene bag on the kitchen table and took out something from its dark depths, he heard footsteps approaching from behind.
He turned around, cake in hand, and yelled ‘surprise’ before his frightened wife could swing the bat at him.

Thanks, you will love all the stories there.
That was so sweet. From sinister to sweet in five short sentences.
Tulika, prompts help me write creative fiction out of the box. Thanks
