I washed the dishes and I loved it…
My song is not as exciting as Katy Perry’s, ‘I kissed a girl and I liked it’ 😉
Today my housemaid decided to take a day off without giving me a day’s notice like she always does. I was expecting guests in the afternoon and had to go, pick them up from the airport, I was mad with fury. But only for a moment, okay for half an hour 🙂 then I thought to myself, ‘Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise’. I donned my brand new apron, put on my rubber gloves and started scrubbing and polishing my dishes. But not before I had put on some good music on the stereo.
As I scrubbed and washed off the stains, which even the veteran maid had been unable to do, I started feeling good about the whole thing. Had it been the old, less evolved me, I would have just ranted and raved and cursed my absentee maid and worked myself into frenzy, shooting my blood pressure to the roof. But I would like to believe that I am growing wiser with age and experience. Also the inspiring articles and books that I have been reading have helped me in seeing the glass as half full, instead of half-empty.
Also the fact that Akon was crooning, ‘You are so beautiful, so damn beautiful’, in the background, made the task at hand so much more fun 🙂 I danced my way through washing the dishes, cleaning house and I even cooked something special for my sister, who was also visiting me later in the day. I had never been happier than at this particular moment. I was happy and thrilled that when life had given me a lemon, I had cut it up into cubes and kept in the refrigerator for future use and had made myself a perfect dirty Martini, instead. (My Mitr’s favourite cocktail 😉 )
All I need to survive are great friends, good books and music, and lots of Love…

Josh hai… 🙂
Btw, our maid is also 'gayab' for almost a week now… and I do agree with what you've written.
Welcome to my place and thank you for your comment. I don't think I can survive a week without help 🙂
Sounds like a whole lot of fun there (i believe when you have to do it once in a while it actually can be fun). But I am most interested about is the dirty martini – how did it turn out with those cubes of lime??
Mitr, The lemon cubes are safely in the fridge for later, now it's DM time 🙂 Oh yes, once in a blue moon is fine but not everyday 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it…would love to share the martini with you and your mitr someday.
Janaki, We hope to meet with you and have that DM 😉
You are a rockstar!! I'm inspired… 🙂
Swati, You are awesome yourself, love your style of writing.
family can also be added to the last line
Anupama, who but your family showers you with lots and lots of love? 🙂 Thank you for visiting and for your comment.
See the skill of a good writer, how she transformed a petty matter to a fine post?
Nirupam, Welcome to my site and thanks a ton for your lovely compliment.
A bit of housework is good for us now and then, although a full-time housekeeper would be nice. We have someone who comes in once a week to clean, but I'd like someone who would take care of chores daily and cook dinner for us.

Housework certainly keeps one grounded – I wash dishes all the time and I get much inspiration when I'm doing such mindless activity! Have a dirty martini on me!
Corinne, I did and will for you 🙂 thanks.
It is fun doing dishes when Akon is singing 'you are so beautiful'. i too put on some lively music while doing household chores and believe you me it is FUN.
Sukhi, Your love for music and dance matches mine 🙂 thanks
