I Can Cook :) – Wishful Thinking

I was standing in front of the three most liked, world-famous chefs, mentors and judges of the cookery show, Masterchef Australia, and I was nervous. My humble dish of Oregano Chutney wasn’t as inventive and sophisticated as some of the other contestants’ dishes, but I was super proud of my effort. It was up to the judges now to decide my fate, I had my fingers crossed. My favorite is George and I was worried that he would find my dish too hot and spicy. He sweats when he eats very spicy food and I hoped the chutney was perfectly balanced, didn’t want George to hate my dish 🙂

Here is the pictorial recipe of my famous Oregano Chutney 🙂

After tasting my dish, all three of them looked at me and smiled, I was grinning from ear to ear. I heard George say, “Lucky, Lucky…wake up.”

What? I opened my eyes and saw my very worried looking hubby staring at me.

“You were sleep-talking”, he smiled and added, “Who is George? Should I be worried after 28 years of being a happily married man? Why were you saying, ‘I hope you are not disappointed?’”

It slowly dawned on me, I’d been dreaming. I’ve been a huge fan of Masterchef Australia for a few years now, and religiously following the journey of its amazing contestants in the ongoing season 8 too. You’ll find me glued to the television set at 9 p m, watching them prepare fabulous dishes, learning to cook and drooling over the sweet and savory dishes being cooked on the show.

As I try to come up with a plausible excuse, a little voice in my head mumbles, “I know I can barely cook, but my Wishful Thinking has landed me in this soup and I have to swim out of this giant bowl of misunderstanding and confusion before I drown in it :)”

P.S. I did make this chutney yesterday for real and it tasted great 🙂

  1. So well written Sulekha, loved the build up and my mouth was starting to tingle which it does when I read/think/smell chutneys and pickles and then you woke up 🙂

  2. hahahaha I could imagine your husband’s reaction… I wonder if I have ever tried this chutney… probably Mom did but I don’t remember these leaves. Enjoyed reading 😀
