10 Promises I’ve made to Myself

One resolution I have made, and try always to keep is this:  To rise above the little things.  ~John Burroughs

10 promises I have made to myself for life.

1. I will not expect anything from anybody; nobody owes me.  Expectations lead to disappointments and I refuse to spoil my day over someone else’s conduct/behavior.

2. I will do my best to help others, without any preconceived notions or conditions. I will do so because it makes me happy to make others smile.

3. I will dream big; why settle for anything small in life? Once there is something that I aspire to do, I will work towards achieving it. If I can fulfill the hopes of others associated with me, I will not hesitate to do so.

4. I will cherish true friendships and sincere people in my life. There is no greater treasure, and I will be the richest person because of this amassed wealth.

5. I will always leave a light burning in my soul for my near and dear ones, who have moved on to the other world. Their love and blessings will keep me protected and safe from heartaches and strife.

6. I will never stop believing in the goodness of people; even when they sometimes disappoint, because humans do make mistakes, and we all deserve a few chances to redeem ourselves.

7. I will keep an open mind; my views are not always the right ones. Listening to the opinions of others makes me a better person and a well-rounded one at that, and I can always choose the best option, at the end of the discussion.

8. I will not willingly or knowingly harm or hurt others’ feelings and sentiments, never. I am happiest when there is harmony all around; smiles motivate me to do my best.

9. I will try to toughen up so that the sometimes insensitive and hurtful remarks of people don’t bother me at all.

10. I will do my best and let the Universe take its own course; I will not aim for 100% but will give my 100% and sit back to accept with humility whatever comes my way.

I have always loved this quote by Dale Carnegie

Do the very best you can; and then put up your old umbrella and keep the rain of criticism from running down the back of your neck.

    1. Hi Meena, I hope I am reading your comment right because it is a bit confusing. 'Nothing is impossible', was coined for a reason 🙂 and one can always try, right? Thanks for your visit.

  1. All 10 points were wonderful, and actually food for thought for those who haven't made such a list. I especially liked the points about helping others, dreaming big and letting universe take its course

    1. Hi Vaisakh,
These are some things my dad always believed in and I am his daughter 🙂 thanks for your lovely comment.

  2. firstly I find meena's comment funny 😀 Yes they do seem impossible Sulekha I will admit but I will also say that they are all depended on one person and that is you. Hence the efforts are going to be more internal than otherwise. All the best sweetie 🙂

    1. Richa, that makes two of us 🙂 Don't we all depend on our inner strenght to live a happy and successful life? Thank you so much for leaving such an encouraging comment on my blog.

    1. Thanks Suzy, I am a firm believer of fate and the higher power. God helps those, those who help themselves, so we are trying 🙂

  3. Fantastic promises, Sulekha! Wishing you all the very best as you keep these promises daily in your life! Cheers 🙂
